On May 7th, we participated in the Knowing for Growing event, a TechTalk organized by Turistec and Wavyssa, which addressed various questions raised by hoteliers.
During the session, among other topics, discussions were held on integrations and their different connections, optimizing distribution for the correct use of technology, accurate and reliable data, the importance of system training, and how to understand the relationships between different technological solutions for hotels.
Our CEO and founder, Martín Millán, participated in a panel discussion alongside other professionals specializing in PMS (Property Management Systems) and RMS (Revenue Management Systems), offering his perspective on the three topics raised:
Does a single source of truth exist?
Our CEO addressed the concept of the “single source of truth” in the context of a Property Management System (PMS). Although the term is frequently used in the industry, his vision invites us to look beyond the label to understand its true meaning and the challenges involved in achieving it.
The idea, in theory, is simple: to have consistent, centralized, and accessible information from all areas of the hotel. But, as he points out, the practice is much more complex. It all starts with assuming that to achieve this, it is necessary to work thoroughly from the business foundation: “The first step to having reliable information is to establish a general business plan, review all involved processes and tools, and understand that this will require time, commitment, and adjustments.”
At Timón Hotel, we believe in this vision. It’s not just about digitalization, but about building a solid foundation of well-organized, connected, and coherent data that truly helps in making sound decisions in the daily management of a hotel.
Should the PMS be cloud-based?
The debate over whether a PMS should be cloud-based is not a question of if, but when. As Martín explained, not being in the cloud yet does not mean a hotel is mismanaging its technology, but he is clear in stating that the future of PMS will inevitably be cloud-based. In his opinion, each hotelier will make the decision at the right time for their operation, but the industry’s direction is already set.
Is an All-in-One tool possible?
While acknowledging that they are not a bad idea, he warns about their limitations: “It’s difficult, with the level of technological change, to be the best at everything,” he commented. For Martín, specialization is key; without it, it is challenging to achieve excellence in an environment as dynamic and competitive as the hospitality industry.
